Dec 14,Wed Early Morning: Arrive in Mumbai at 2:50 am. You are met at the airport and taken to your hotel for a rest!Morning: Wake up and have an orientation to India. Dec 15,Thur Morning: 10:00 amEducational tour of the Dharavi slums, with emphasis on its recycling industries and entrepreneurial energy!  Afterwards, (1:00 pm) meet with Namrata Aurora, a Harvard Business School scholar who has written about Dharavi.Afternoon:  Meet with Hilary Fisher-Groban of the ICICI Foundation to discuss their approach to empowering the poor to participate in and benefit from the Indian growth process through integrated action in the fields of primary health, elementary education, financial inclusion and sustainable livelihood.Afterwards, possible meeting with members of UnLtd India; discussion regarding social entrepreneurship.Evening: Bollywood film in Bollywood! Dec 16,Fri Morning:  Meet with members of Teach for India, an organization dedicated to transforming education in India.  Visit with several Teach for India Fellows and possibly observe them in the classroom.Afternoon:  1:30 pm – 3:45 pm Visit to the Akanksha Foundation, supporting underprivileged children with a variety of opportunities.Possible visit to a call center in Mumbai.  Meet with staff, and discuss impact of globalization on the rising middle class in India.Evening: American fast food at an Indian mall. Dec 17,Sat Morning:  10:30 am. Visit MarketPlace India/ SHARE  to meet with a Fair Trade garment and craft producer. Presentation on Fair Trade craft production and its impact; meeting and discussion with the producers.Afternoon:  Time with the youth program of MarketPlace India.Evening:  Free time. Dec 18,Sun  Morning:  Leave by train for Pune by Intercity Express # 12127, dep at 6:45 am; arrive in Pune at 9:52 am; transfer to your hotel and check in. Time to relax and wash up before lunch.Afternoon: Visit to several of a variety of Indian religious centers/places of worship:  Parvati Hindu temple, Sikh Gurudwara, Muslim mosque. Dec 19,Mon Morning & Afternoon: 9:30 am – 3:00 pm; Orientation to service learning project in Pune with Bright Star Education, a school for disadvantaged children.  (Possible service projects range from construction and painting projects, to working as teaching assistants and developing specific programs for the school and orphanage.) Visit to Bright Star’s sister project, Home of Hope, a home for HIV+ children in the slums of Pune.Evening: Free time to explore/rest/debrief Hotel Meru, Pune

Dec 25Sun  Morning/Afternoon:  Christmas Day. Free day in Pune. Optional Christmas service with local Christian community at St. Vincent’s School.   Day’s excursion to park/natural area outside Pune. Hotel Meru, Pune
Dec 26,Mon  Morning:Depart by train from Pune by Deccan Queen #12124 at 7:15 am, arriving in Mumbai at 10:25 am.  You are met by your private bus which will take you to Dahanu, stopping along the way for lunch.Afternoon: Bus to Dahanu, a seaside town north of Mumbai.  Arrive at the Merchant Farm in a rural forested area outside of town.  Orientation to the farm, followed by a home cooked meal!Evening: Free time to relax after a long day of travel. Dec 27,Tue Morning & Afternoon: Full day with members of INTACH, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage.  After an introduction to INTACH’s work, you will receive an orientation the history, culture and present issues pertaining to Adivasi communities. Visit to an Adivasi village,an Adivasi temple, followed by a meeting with an Adivasi Warli artist (with opportunity to buy paintings).Evening: Presentation on Zoroastrian history, religion and culture Merchant Farm, Dahanu
Dec 28,Wed Morning: Visit to an Adivasi ashramshalla (boarding school). Dec 29,Thur Morning/Afternoon:  Day on the Merchant Farm, learning about and assisting with the harvest of Dahanu’s most important crop: chikoos. You will help with picking the fruit, washing it, packing it, and then taking it to auction – along with the Adivasi farm laborers.Evening: Farewell dinner and celebration – with dancing!
